Halonen to be re-elected in the first round, poll suggests
The results of a Gallup Finland poll, printed by the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat in its Saturday issue, indicate that President Tarja Halonen would secure a second term in the first round with 54 per cent of the votes if the elections were held at the time of asking.
Some 20 per cent of respondents said they would vote for Sauli Niinisto, the Conservative Party candidate, while 18 per cent supported Matti Vanhanen, the prime minister and the Centre Party challenger.
Gallup Finland interviewed more than 1,400 Finns entitled to vote on 27-29 December. The research firm puts the margin of error at 2.5 percentage points either way.
First-round advance voting will begin on Wednesday, also in Tokyo and Osaka. Please check the Embassy's web site
Election day is 15 January.
Wearing An Earring
A man is at work one day when he notices that his co-worker is wearing an ear-ring.
This man knows his co-worker to be a normally conservative fellow, and is curious about his sudden change in "fashion sense." The man walks up to him and says, "I didn't know you were into ear-rings."
"Don't make such a big deal, it's only an ear-ring," he replies sheepishly.
"So, really? How long have you been wearing one?"
"Ever since my wife found it in our bed."
